A look at Instagram in 2025 

As of right now, the Supreme Court ruled to hear Tiktok’s case for not being banned in the U.S. it’s hard to say what will actually happen if a ban will actually be enforced. Either way it’s safe to say that a lot of creators that are solely on TikTok are panicking. Which is why we say you should build an audience on owned property and not leased property, but that’s a blog for a different day. 

With the constant ban of Tiktok looming over creators’ heads in 2025 expect a lot more creators to work on having a bigger presence on Instagram which means more competition for views and engagement. 

Instagram Algorithm

If TikTok does get banned or creators jump ship regardless, there will most likely be a change in the Instagram Algorithm to keep up with the boom of new users and content creators. An algorithm changing is something that’s out of your control and with the shift comes change in your page’s overall numbers, which is an easy way to get discouraged.

Just remember that algorithms will continue to change and again that’s not in your control. Focus on what is in your control, which is creating great content and continuing to go the extra mile to engage with your audience. 

Experiment

Don’t let the fear of change keep you from creating the same old type of content. As the algorithm shifts then you are going to want to take notice of the type of content that’s performing the best. Maybe you were very reel heavy in 2024 but you’re noticing that some of your carousel posts are doing extremely well. Maybe your audience resonates with those more or vice versa. Whatever type of content it may be, listen to your audience, their engagement on your content is telling you want they want to see from you. 

Authenticity vs. Polished 

When it comes to short videos, this is something that many people have been saying for quite some time but with the jump from TikTok to Instagram many users are going to be looking for those TikTok style casual talking type videos versus super polished type of videos. 

This is actually a good thing when you look at it because it takes pressure off of you and your reels will take a lot less time to create. 

Hashtags

Instagram already announced that you will no longer be able to follow a hashtag but does that mean that they are completely out? Not necessarily but you definitely want to have a different mindset about them. 

When it comes to hashtags you want to think about them in terms of SEO versus just throwing a bunch of hashtags and hoping that one of them will stick. Be mindful and strategic of the keywords that you are using in your posts and videos. What are people actually searching for? 

Conclusion 

There’s no surprise here that things are shifting once again. Depending on what happens with Tiktok there could be some even larger shifts but only time will tell. One thing we know for certain is that Social Media, Instagram and all of the other platforms are going to constantly evolve.
