Woman confused on how to respond to amen on social media

How To Respond To “Amen” On Social Media

There are no ifs, and, or buts about it; engagement is one of the most important things to focus on when it comes to Social Media. I heard a quote recently that I loved that said, “Without engagement, Social Media is just media.” That’s so true. As Christian broadcasters, we have the honor of sharing Christ and providing encouragement and hope to people’s lives every day.

Often as we share that hope and encouragement, the comment section ends up being a bunch of “Amen” responses that can be tough to engage with. So exactly how do you respond to “Amen” on your posts? Read on to find out.

Lead the conversation in your post copy

If you want another response besides “Amen” on your post, don’t be afraid to ask for it. If you’re posting a Bible verse, for example, in your copy, ask a question that requires more than an “Amen” response.

For example, if you wanted to post the Bible verse below in your copy, ask a question like, “What is something that you’re thanking God for today?” This year, etc., once they answer the question, this is the perfect opportunity for you to engage and get to know them. Start by thanking them for engaging or letting them know that you’re glad this verse resonates with them. If they say they are thankful for their family, great! Then ask a question about their family, if it’s their job, ask what they do. Really think about it as a conversation rather than just a task that you have to do.

Determine what the overall theme of your post is

When you take a step back and look at the content that you’re posting, each one has an overall theme. You can use that theme to help you come up with ways to respond to your “Amens.”

For example, the overall theme of this particular post is God being your strength. So when you get an “Amen” you can ask them about a time that God showed them his strength when they were feeling weak or down. You can also ask if there’s anything that they would like prayer for (be ready to pray for them). Or ask what song reminds them of God’s strength and faithfulness in their life.

Make a List of Engagement Questions

When it comes to engagement, I can’t stress enough the importance of treating every comment as having a conversation with each person rather than just seeing responding as a task to check off your to-do list. Think about things that you want to know about your audience, like how long they’ve been listening or following you on Social Media? Take note of the questions you are asking that people respond well to, so you have them for future reference. You can ask the same questions to multiple people by switching up a word or two and making it personal with their name.

If you’re doing general holiday posts, think about things you would want to know about a new person you’re meeting. Do you have any special traditions, recipes, etc?. If it’s a more heavy post, you can ask them about prayer or if you feel they need to have a deeper conversation move the conversation into a private one, invite them to do so.

Respond with other resources that the station has available for them, whether that’s your prayer page, an event, or a concert that may interest them. Also, use your comment section to ask your followers about what kind of content they would like to see on your page. If they respond with “Amen”, then say, “We’re so glad this post resonated with you. Would you like to see more of these types of posts?”

Make them feel like an actual person versus a follower

When you treat your followers as real people versus numbers, the possibilities of responding are endless. Build a tribe, not a crowd. This is also what sets your social media accounts apart from every other one. If you’re still struggling with how to respond or want some extra help, we would love to help you!
