Tips to Avoid Spam and Scams on Facebook
Published on March 20, 2024/
It seems like spam and scams on Facebook are much more prominent than ever and the scams are getting even trickier to decipher. If you’ve ever been scammed by something you thought came from Facebook or aren’t sure if it really is from Facebook or not you are not alone, here are some tips that can help you be vigilant.
5 Tips to Avoid Facebook Scams
- If you’ve received an email or Facebook Notification claiming to be from Facebook or Meta. Don’t freak out or do anything rash until you figure out what’s going on.
- If you receive an email that looks official from Facebook be sure to thoroughly look at the email address first. According to Facebook they will only send you email notifications from Facebookmail.com and Metamail.com. If you receive a Facebook or Meta email notification from another address, don’t open the email or click any links in it.
- Facebook will never ask you for your password in an email or send you a password as an attachment. So if you received an email that looks like it’s official from Facebook asking for those things, you know right away that’s not the case.
- Avoid clicking on any links or attachments. If you aren’t one million percent sure who this is coming from it’s wise to never click on links or attachments. Scammers use these tactics to spread malware or for phishing attempts.
- Educate yourself. Stay informed about the latest scams and security advice by following reputable cybersecurity news sources and Facebook’s own security announcements.
